Fans Flock to Jackson Documentary; "This is It"

By KSFY Staff

The Michael Jackson documentary; "This is It," was tops at the box office over the weekend, taking in more than $100 worldwide. Theaters in Sioux Falls saw nice crowds over the weekend, spanning generation to generation.

Shawna Goetzinger and 11 year old daughter Jordyn have been waiting to see the movie since it was announced. "I grew up on Michael Jackson and Jordyn didn't. When he died; Jordyn started hearing all this stuff and asking questions and forming her own opinion and she really wanted to come see the movie to see what it was all about," Shawna says.

"I just heard all the bad things about him but this (movie) gives you a whole different look at him," says Jordyn.

"There was a lot of media coverage that really cut Michael down while he was alive," adds Shawna. And that's exactly why they say they enjoyed the movie, for its ability to not focus on the negative. "I think the movie did an awesome job of only portraying the wonderful musician and dancer. He's just very musically gifted and that's all the movie was about," Shawna says.

And Jordyn, who had a lot of questions before seeing the movie, now has at least some of the answers she was looking for. "You get a different look at him after you see the movie. He's a different person than you think he is."

One other note; the film was originally supposed to run for just two weeks, but due to the early success, producers may keep it in theaters even longer.
