Huron Police Investigating Fourth Murder of the Year

By Associated Press

Huron police are treating the death of a 21-year-old man, Ryan Treadway, as a homicide.

Police Chief Doug Schmitt said in a statement that officers responded to a report of two people fighting at an assisted-living facility for people with mental illness shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday, and found Treadway lying behind the building in a pool of blood. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

A 24-year-old man, Edwin Patrick Thompson, was arrested and is to appear in court Tuesday.

Authorities say the men knew one another but refused to release home towns for either of them.

Authorities declined to answer additional questions Monday, including whether the men lived or worked at the Bradfield Leary Center and whether a weapon was involved.

until you live here and see all the good things that happen here you cant judge. per capita we probably do have a bad record as far as murders go but we dont have to worry about alot of the things that other cities do its a quiet town so shut up!!!

Ok the huron pd does an excellent job and are handling all these murders in a professional manner. what is wrong with our mayor and commission who seem to think they don't deserve what they get paid and that they don't need anymore officers, even when there is a grant to pay for their salary for 2 to 3 years and this was denied by our great mayor. maybe the pd needs to start calling him out on these calls and all the others

BLC and CCS has not had any issues like this, it was just a few months ago that another BLC client stab someone in the neck just because he felt like it, that is exactly what he said in court, he just felt like it. What if this guy was walking down the street and attacked a child or another innocent person. Get a clue, they run that place for the dollars and do nothing to better the community, they need to be shut down.

How about you all just stop hating already. If you don't live here you don't have a reason to act like you know what is going on. All of these murders have been people that know what another. Stop blaming it on our police. They are always working hard to protect us. Also it would be nice for people to stop making it sound like we have serial killers hiding in our trees. K thanks.

I used to live in Huron and never had any fears while doing so. I also used to work at BLC and continue to work in the mental health field. Hopefully people will not rush to judgment and decide that all mentally ill people are dangerous. BLC and CCS have been around a long time with no past problems like this. This is an isolated incident.

Bradfield Leary Center does not help "developementally Disabled People" get back on their feet. They work with people with Mental Illness.......There is a difference.

All four of these murders are no big mysteries. It's just a matter of court dates and sending them all to the hill.

I am proud to live in Huron and am not afraid to walk our streets. All of these murders have taken place with people who know each other. Messed up I agree but that does not make this an unsafe place to live in.Lives have been lost but remember their families are still living and trying to cope. Junior High children on here bashing towns..grow up

People don't need to come on here and bash the families that lost a loved one. Instead of complainin Huron is no good why don't you do something about it instead of talking no good.

Why don't you people have any compasson for the families, they just lost a loved one. If you think Huron is sooo BAD then why aren't you tring to make a differance??

News flash - she WAS NOT going 120mph and we are alot bigger, a fight on a pool bet is better than a MURDER!

It is sad that misfortune finds our little town "1" year and we are drug through the mud. Hey when was the last time we had some drunk girl going down one of our main streets at 120 MPH or someone pistol whipping their "friend" over a $10 pool bet? I think people should look in their own backyards before they start trashing ours

Thank you Sad! You hit it on the head. And for the rest of you who find it necessary to voice an opinion when you don't know the whole story, make keep quiet. And to KSFY, to bad you don't have more important things to do with your time than publish comments that are hurtful not only to the people involved but to the community as well. We are all entitled to our opinion but sometimes common sense and just plain kindness need to prevail. One more reason not to watch your station!!

How big is Huron anyways? The murder rate per capita has to be pretty high.

Monday, Nov 2 at 5:17 PM lt wrote ...

maybe everybody should stop bashing huron, there are murders out in rapid all the time they just don't make the news like every little thing here does

Monday, Nov 2 at 4:31 PM Sad! wrote ...

If any of you have any clue what Bradfield Leary is... you would understand... they are the people always ignored... the ones who are out in the community helpless because the mental health system is failing them. Maybe BLC and CCS will finally step up to the plate instead of ignoring the ones who need help! If any employees read this you know it is true.

huron is messed up town and very crooked. murder rate goin way up for such a small town

Monday, Nov 2 at 3:27 PM And wrote ...

So why is it just in Huron. You don't see this taking place all over the state. Strange for one town to have so many in a year!

Monday, Nov 2 at 2:53 PM no one left wrote ...

Get a clue. These are all isolated events that are happening. I don't know what the HPD could do to prevent these disaters...they can't read minds...can you? There isn't a serial killer on the loose...all these murders that have happened were between 2 people.

Monday, Nov 2 at 2:05 PM no one left wrote ...

Huron Police better step up to the plate and keep there town in check or soon there will be no one left in that town.

Is it horrible that an episode of South Park came to mind while reading this story? Probably.
