A shocking crime in Huron, South Dakota as 21 year old Ryan Treadway's body was discovered by police in a pool of blood. Police were called Sunday evening to The Bradford Leary Center for a fight. When they got there, Treadway's body was found and transported to the Huron Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation is underway with the Huron Police Department and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation. Edwin Patrick Thompson, 24 has been arrested and will have an initial court appearance on Tuesday morning at 9:30 am.
Action News spoke with Jim Richner who remembers Ryan Treadway as a friend. "He'd come over to my place, drink coffee and sit and watch football, stuff like that, baseball" said Richner. Hearing his friend had been killed outside the Bradford Leary Center, a place Jim says Ryan attended at one time, came as a shock. "I was surprised, I didn't think anything like that would happen to him."
The Bradford Leary Center is on Huron's northeast side. The Center helps developmentally disabled individuals get their feet back on the ground. Action News spoke with Dewayne Majeres on Monday afternoon, who is a director of The Center. He told me that Thompson, the suspect, was a client of The Center, but would not say if he lived there. He went on to say that the center is a low security, 24 hours a day operation and this is the first time an incident has occurred in it's 25 years.
An anonymous neighbor told us that when the fight started, there was no one there to break it up. Jim thinks youth had something to do with it, saying, "When you're in your 20s, you tend to make mistakes and I believe that's what happened."
Police have not said anything about a weapon being used.
