Rounds: Lawmakers Will Have to Decide Tax Proposal

By Associated Press

Gov. Mike Rounds says South Dakota lawmakers will have to decide whether to support any tax increases proposed in the 2010 session and then explain their vote.

Lawmakers could consider proposals to raise the state gas tax, vehicle excise tax and registration fees to help pay for highway and road projects.

Rounds says lawmakers will have to decide whether they want more
money for roads and if not, then tell the public why they didn't
support it.

The governor says he'd be willing to talk with lawmakers who would consider such a proposal.
