Northern State University Fires Two Football Coaches

A surprising annoucement from Northern State University today. Both head football coach, Chris Boden, and the Assistant Coach Richard Sweeney have been fired.

Coach Boden says he always tells his players to battle adversity and says now he'll be taking his own advice as he moves on.

This is one of the last practices at Northern State University for head football coach Chris Boden.

Boden has been coaching for four years and the last game of the 2009 season marks the end of his coaching career at Northern.

"At the moment I was greatly disappointed. I feel like we've accomplished a lot here in a short time but obviously the bottom line in college football is that you've got to win and we did everything but that."

Coach Boden says he does believe the University and the community appreciated some of the positive changes he made to the football program. Although he is officially out of a job, Boden still has one more game to play.

"Right now I'm focused on one thing, beating Augustana. After this week we'll put the equipment away and say goodbye to the guys and then we will start thinking. I'll job search like a lot of coaches do at the end of the season and see where it takes me."

The athletic director says both Coach Boden and Coach Sweeney are very good people and hard workers but NSU would have liked to see more wins on the scoreboard.

"I appreciate the opportunity that they have given me to be the head football coach here. It's been a very special thing and a dream of mine and I will always remember it and be grateful."
