It's hard enough to get even one H1N1 vaccination, but federal guidelines say kids under the age of 9 need two H1N1 vaccine shots to gain immunity.
Tonight some answers to what seems like a shortage of the H1N1 vaccine.
Judy Buseman with the Sioux Falls Health Department says, "The state's really monitoring and getting supply out across the state so any vaccine that's unused they're looking at where's the next clinic. They're really managing the distributions."
The little over a thousand doses left over from last week's H1N1 clinic will add to this Thursday's clinic...making 31-hundred vaccines available. That's some good news for area parents.
Buseman says, "Younger kids need to build their immunity and they have a younger immune system so the first dose really primes them, to get full immunity they need that second dose."
Getting ahold of that second dose should be easier, as Buseman says the amount of vaccine distributed is increasing weekly.
Judy Buseman says they're working with a coordinated community group and partnership to get that out.
So if you don't get your hands on one of this week's 3-thousand some doses, she says don't worry...just keep your eye out for weekly clinics because more vaccine is coming.
The Sioux Falls Health Department says they're certainly aware that they need to get second doses out to kids under ten, parents need to remember the second dose if they're in that age group.
Again, if you live in the city of Sioux Falls or Minnehaha or McCook counties there's another H1N1 clinic this Thursday evening from 3 until 7 at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds.
But it's only for people who fall into these catagories: pregnant women, kids 6 months to 4 years, people who live or care for children 6 months and younger, and kids 5 to 18 who are at high risk for flu-related complications.
