Not Guilty Plea Entered In Child Rape Case

Tools

A Sioux Falls man accused of raping a 5-year-old girl in Brookings has pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree rape.

The top penalty facing 33-year-old Jason Manzel if he's convicted is life in prison.

According to a grand jury indictment, the incident occurred between July 1 and late August of 2007.

During a Tuesday court session, the judge in the case set a Dec. 9 trial date. But Manzel's lawyer said he likely would seek a continuance.

Manzel is free after posting a $100,000 cash bond.

Where was the daycare provider when this was happening? This is so sad and sick that a person could do this.
