Wet weather has kept farmers from getting out into the fields, but it's warming up.

That means as crops come out, so do deer -- onto roads and highways.

The regional wildlife manager for the Department of Game, Fish and Parks says drivers need to be more careful right now.

Rutting season and a late harvest mean deer are on the move.

"This time of year is the peak. Now, we have not reached the peak because the farmers are not in the corn yet so the rest of November is going to be very busy and the first part of December," said Ron Schauer of the GF&P.

If you do come across deer in the road, the most important thing is to apply your brakes steadily, don't swerve and always wear your seat belt.
