The Effort to Save the State Theatre

The show will go on once again at the State Theatre in Sioux Falls, thanks to the hard work of dedicated film enthusiasts and generous community members.

A lot's already been done to restore this historic theatre but there's still more to do.

Replaced water and drainage lines, a new fire system and a redone façade are all completed improvements at the State Theatre.

Project director Stacy Newcomb Weiland says, "Most recently we had all the asbestos removed from the entire building."

So far the improvements total around a million dollars, and the future indoor improvements are slated to start within a month or two.

Weiland says, "We're really getting into the exciting part that people can see."

Next up....the lobby.

Then the theatre itself.

Improvements continue as money to fund them continues to come in.

According to Weiland, "We'll show everything from blockbusters to foreign film and even silent film, the Wurlitzer was donated back to the theatre."

The goal...reviving the love of film and live entertainment in a historic setting, just like it was back in 1926 when it was built.

"It's going to create the unique opportunity for an affordable daily venue for film, $5-$10 you can come and watch whatever film we're showing at that time of year." said Weiland.
