The Next Step For Phillips to the Falls

Some big changes in a little bit of time.

The area south of Falls Park has been cleared and redesigned.

Now developers are about ready to reveal the next phase of the project "Phillips to the Falls."

Former city planner Steve Metli says, "It's amazing how much change has taken place down here in a few years."

What now sits as attractive green park space was once an industrial eyesore.

He helped initiate the original idea of Phillips to the Falls more than 30 years ago.

He says, "Once you get it going the other direction the momentum is there and this is going to be a source of pride for sioux falls for years to come, a place for people to come together."

Tory Miedema is helping continue the planning process as a park development specialist and says you'll start to see some big changes in the uptown area in the next 2-3 years.

"What we've been doing is looking into what type of features that we don't have in the park now that we need and just how we can better service the community."

Among the park developments, 120 apartments that will bring more people to live in the downtown area, a place Sioux Falls should be proud of.

Steve Metli couldn't agree more. "We have a wonderful culture and a wonderful character in the downtown area with our landmark buildings, these are things i get to enjoy everyday because i live down here."

Tory Miedema says he hopes to have a concrete development plan for the park for public to see...toward the middle of December.

I read in the headlines that the skyrocketing unmploymnt rate is scary, yet we're spending more money on the Phillips to the Falls. How about help the citizens of Sioux Falls who are facing the damaging unemployment rate? Doesn't make any sense to me...

I think a GREAT feature to downtown Sioux Falls would be a dog park in the plans. If there gonna make housing and all that comes with animals including canines so a place where u can get out with your dog and let him/her play is a great idea so people do not have to get in there cars and drive there pet to a dog park.
