Debit Card Phone Scam Hits SD

By KSFY Staff

State Attorney Marty Jackley Is warning South Dakota residents to be on alert for a debit card scam.
Police statewide are fielding calls from people who say they are getting calls from alleged bank employees. The people calling are then asking for the customers' debit card pin numbers.
Actual banks do not need the information to access your accounts and Jackley says to never provide your personal pin number to anyone and it is smart to change it as often as you can.
If you think your pin may have been tampered with always call your bank.
Jackley also warns against writing your pin number down or carrying it with you as it can fall in to the wrong hands much easier.
