New developments in the fight over whether embryonic stem cell research should be legal in South Dakota. Today a south dakota group called "The Coalition for Cures Not Cloning" held a press conference saying they are ready for a fight to make sure this issue does not get put back on a ballot.
Chris Hupke of the SD Family Policy Council said:
"Tens of thousands of people received effective treatment from adult stem cells and so the real difference is that adult stem cells work, embryonic stem cells do not"
But those behind the ballot initiative say embryonic stem cell research has potential that needs time to develop.
Dave Volk of SD for Lifesaving Cures said:
"As far as the claim that there have been no stem cell treatments for cures from embryonic stem cells that's true but the fact of the matter is we've only been doing this research for 10 years"
South Dakotans for Life Saving Cures is in the process of gathering 16,000 signatures to put the issue on the ballot.
