Mitchell Students Thank Police for Murder Arrest

Erin Fowkes is a counselor at Mitchell High School and has been working one on one with students who are taking the loss of Jasmine Guevara very tough.

"The students are moving really slow, very somber, lots of questions, this is Mitchell, how could this happen."

She knows that students are going to take time to recover from the shock of last week.

"Just disbelief I think is a good word for how our students are feeling right now, they need time to heal and that will be a long time in coming."

Students have been coming to Erin for help when they feel they need it and referring other students to her if they see someone struggling.

A part of the grieving process has been thanking those who helped catch the people responsible for this tragedy. Lt. Don Everson read a statement from the Mitchell Police Department saying thanks to the students.

"The card was signed by several high school students and was symbolic of what the resolution of this case has meant to the local students and to the community at large."

That was just a small part of the statement from the Mitchell Police Department, they also mentioned that their thoughts continued to be with the family at this time.

To al the poeple who did not know Jasmine, if you are going to cry, cry for the right reasons, cry because she was not only a member of our school, but she was an amazing person. Cry because of the situation. Cry because somone of her... character, had to expierence something like that. do not cry because she was all the sudden your "best friend". my prayers are with not only Jasmine, but her brother; as well as her whole family. <3 and miss you Jazzy Baby** you'll always be my Meka<3

I think what is so shocking for everyone is how brutal her murder was. She was so young and it was such a senseless death. I still can't get over how a human could do this to a 15 year old over a loser guy. Hope the 15 year old gets tried as an adult. Premeditated murder of a 16 year old doesn't sit well with South Dakotans. Ultimately, if you have nothing positive to bring to society...go FAR FAR AWAY and don't come back!
