Statistics show that the holidays are the most dangerous time of year for drunk driving. MADD-Mothers Against Drunk Driving-has partnered with Knology in a campaign called 'Tie One on for Safety,' hoping to raise awareness and decrease drunk driving incidents. Nationally, about 1000 people are killed and half a million are injured in alcohol related crashes every year.

In South Dakota, 29% of traffic fatalities involve a drunk driver. In Iowa, that number is 22%, but in Minnesota, 30% involve a drunk driver. North Dakota has the worst numbers in the nation, with 46% of fatalities involving a drunk driver. MADD and Knology are hoping this campaign will serve as a reminder to drivers to be safe this holiday season. Between now and January 1, you can stop into any Knology office in South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa and pick up a red ribbon and a window decal. Knology hopes to distribute 6 million of these nationwide this season. "We all spend time on the road, every single day, we go to work, we go to the grocery store, we're always out there and it's just a really good reminder to people, when they see that ribbon that we need to stay safe and sober. And drunk driving is a senseless and preventable crime," says Laura Muir with Knology.
