The body found inside a burned out car in rural Hanson County last week was identified late tonight as 16 year old Jasmine Guevera.
The Attorney General's office says tonight the positivie ID is the result of DNA testing at a state forensic lab in Pierre.
Although family and friends believed the body found last week was Jasmine's, they still held a glimmer of hope that it wasn't her. Tonight's news dashed those hopes.
Amanda Walz Nava, a good friend of Jasmine's says, "It's kind of hard to explain you know you assume that it's her but you really don't know until it's been positively identified."
It's been one week after the car at the center of a suspicious fire in rural Hanson County as well as the body found inside were taken to the crime lab in Pierre. Tonight, the State's Attorney General has identified the body inside was Amanda Walz Nava's friend, 16 year old Jasmine Guevara.
"It's been very hard, very hard, I mean she was a great kid and she didn't deserve to go the way she did and it's just been tough," said Walz Nava.
The death of the 16 year old has been tough on everyone who knew her. Amanda says that the news today confirming Jasmine Guevara was the body that was burned in rural Mitchell will be extremely hard for their family to take.
"They're going to be devastated but I just hope everybody keeps them in the thoughts and in their prayers," Walz Nava said of the Guevara family.
Amanda prays that justice will be served to those involved in her death, "Obviously the guy is going to be charged as an adult because he's over 18 but I hope they charge the girl as an adult too because pretty much it was all her idea."
