Senate Democrats Need 60 Votes to Get Bill to Floor

Health care reform is heating up on Capitol Hill.

Senate Democrats need 60 votes just to get their bill to the Senate floor. That vote will happen tomorrow in a rare weekend vote, but some republicans are already saying they don't want to debate the bill at all, calling it dead on arrival.

Senator John Thune says, "It was marketed as being different and driving costs down when it actually increases costs by $160 billion."

On the other side of the aisle, senator Tim Johnson says this bill needs to be heard. He sent Action News this statement.

"Some will try to stop this debate before it even begins on the Senate floor. There are many steps to go before we have a final bill through both chambers, but we cannot stick our heads in the sand and pretend that reform isn't needed or stop all attempts to fix a broken system."

Even if this bill makes it to the Senate floor, it's still a long way from the President's desk.
