Shower our Guests with Care is the Banquet's holiday project this year and according to Madeline Shields, it fulfills another basic need for those they serve.

"When our guests come here to eat dinner, we find that there are other necessities that they need in their life, and soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, those are just some necessities that they need," said Shields.

Bob Smith and Laurie Megard dropped off bags of packets they had purchased and they had this to say: "It's just a very wonderful program that provides items of need to people who need them." 

Here's how it works.Go to any Lewis Drug Store in Sioux Falls and purchase ready-made packets, for $9.99, and leave them in the collection box. There are different packets for men, women and children, but everyone gets the same items.

Lewis Drug donated the items, so the money raised from the purchase of the packets goes to buy things like laundry soap and toilet paper.

"They go without these items, these personal necessity items all year long and when we can give that as a gift that is a wonderful thing," said Shields.

Laurie thinks it's simple. "Everybody needs to have personal care items, it's just a basic necessity that everybody deserves."
