Twenty dogs have been rescued from a home in southwest Brown County.

Officials say the dogs were malnourished and the owners could not handle all of them.

"They were very upset, with us coming in there and it's very hard because if you are an animal lover, as those of us affiliated with the humane society and our many supporters are, you really become attached to the animals," says Nancy Upton from the Aberdeen Humane Society.

One of the Great Danes, named Hope, was brought to the Aberdeen Humane Society.

Officials tell us they found over two hundred ticks and fleas on her body.

The owners of the dogs says, "We did the best we could. It is an emotional situation. We have picked up a lot of strays over the years and we do not agree with the negative comments."

Right now the dogs are on their way to Sioux Falls and Huron, where they will hopefully recover and be put up for adoption.
