Longtime Iowa House member Jack Drake dies at age 81

ATLANTIC, Iowa (AP) - Veteran Iowa legislator Jack Drake has died in a hospital at the age of 81.

Marty Rieken of Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold says Drake died of natural causes on Sunday at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

Drake, a Republican, was elected in 1992 to the Iowa House in southwest Iowa's 21st District. His colleague Linda Upmeyer, who will be taking over in January as speaker of the House, says Drake's "expertise and guidance will be sorely missed."

Rieken says a funeral is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Griswold United Methodist Church, with burial to follow at Griswold Cemetery.
