Flu Vaccines Won't Prevent Swine Flu

For some time, people have been getting the "flu shot" to avoid being sick. But with the swine flu outbreak, we had questions about flu shots.

In our newsroom, we asked 'If I haven’t received a flu shot, is it too late, and would it help protect me from Swine Flu?'

For the answer, we got a hold of Novartis. That's a company that makes the flu vaccine. They tell Action News that this year’s vaccine will not protect you from this new outbreak of the swine flu.  There is a swine flu vaccine for pigs, but not one for humans.

However, both Tamiflu and Relenza have shown to decrease symptoms of the swine flu in those who’ve already been infected.
