Sioux Falls School Superintendent Pam Homan says she is using her power to suspend part of the district's attendance policy because of the flu.

At the end of September, the school board voted unanimously to give Homan the authority to suspend needing a doctors note to miss days of school if the community was seeing a high amount of sick people. This afternoon, she did just that due to a high number of sick kids in the district.

Dr. Homan said. "It's suspended until further notice. This is all new to us, we don't know if it'll be one week two weeks three weeks or four weeks. What we can tell you, what we saw in the school district, the pattern seems to have started on the east side of town and we've got kind of a wave going through."
