H1N1 Clinic Opens Up To Everyone in High-Risk Category

By Chuck Harmer

The call goes out over our airways and people run to get in line. A once "invitation only" H1N1 clinic was expanded Thursday night to include other Minnehaha County kids and parents in target groups.

After Minnehaha County Emergency Management opened the clinic up for everybody the lines absolutely exploded as anybody in the high risk group could come and line up at the WH Lyons Fairgrounds.

It didn't take long for Angie DeBrin and her son Dakota to respond to Minnehaha County Emergency Managment that H1N1 vaccines were available for them. Angies pregnant and due in April and Dakota's 3 years old putting them both in the high-risk category.

"I Just got home, he turned on a movie, I turned on the news heard that it opened just minutes ago and told him get your shoes we're going and here we are," said Angie DeBrin after her and her son both were vaccinated.

They weren't alone. Minnehaha County Emergency Manager Lynn DeYoung was astonished by the quick turnout. "We have several hundred people that showed up after 6:00, we're very happy with that. We want to keep the vaccine in our community and give it out as fast as possible," said DeYoung just prior to the 7:00 deadline to get a shot.

As for the H1N1 mist that Dakota received, Angie said her son did pretty well, "He didn't do to bad, I was impressed." You might not have guessed by his face, but either way both Dakota and Mom are now vaccinated for H1N1. "I knew eventually it would get here."

Angie wasn't worried they would get vaccinated, but she's glad it's done.
