More Than 1,000 Doses of H1N1 Vaccine Shipped Back to Pierre

Minnehaha County received 300 doses of the H1N1 Vaccine. Emergency responders received their shot Wednesday night.

More than 1,000 doses of H1N1 shots that were intended to be distributed in Sioux Falls last night were shipped back to Pierre.

We're told only 978 vaccines were used at last night's clinic.

The vaccination clinic began as an invitation-only event, but Minnehaha County eventually opened it up to the public because many of you that were invited, didn't come.

Now the leftover vaccine will be distributed at other clinics in the state.

"Basically the doses of vaccine are a federal asset that's controlled by the state of South Dakota so last night after the event we boxed the vaccine boxed up goes back to the state of South Dakota," said Lynn De Young, Minnehaha County Emergency Management.

Because the vaccine went unused here, Minnehaha County is now on the bottom of the list. So it's hard to say when another H1N1 vaccine event will be held here.
