Woodrow "Woodie" C. Holter, age 94, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009 at the Canton Good Samaritan Society.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 at Canton First Baptist Church, with burial at Grand Valley Lutheran Cemetery south of Canton.

Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Woodrow C. Holter was born August 11, 1915 at Hillsboro County, TX to Hardy and Bessie (Beckham) Harrison. At the age of two, she moved with her family to Bristow, OK, where she attended school. She graduated from Gypsy High School in 1933 and proudly played on the girls varsity basketball team.

Woodie married Laurel Holter March 31, 1946 in Tulsa, OK, having first met him on a blind date while he was in the service. They made their home on a farm south of Canton, where they raised their two sons, Lee and David. Woodie was a bookkeeper for Farmers Elevator for 14 years, retiring in 1980. Her husband, Laurel, died January 23, 2002.

Woodie was an active member of Canton First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and served as secretary of the Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Sons of Norway, Farmers Union, and the Grieg Male Chorus Auxiliary.

She enjoyed gardening, traveling, and visiting family and friends. After retiring, Woodie and Laurel enjoyed spending the winter months in Apache Junction, Arizona. Grateful for having shared her life are her two sons, Lee of Monroeville, AL, and David (Kathy) of Canton, SD; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Jo (Manuel) Ramirez of Nashville, TN; two brothers, Ottis (Mabel) Harrison of Oklahoma City, OK, and Morris Harrison of Longview, TX; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Laurel, her parents, two brothers, Kit and Chester, and one sister, Helen.
