USF football announces 2008 recruiting class

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Following consecutive NAIA national championship appearances, including a national title in 2006, the University of Sioux Falls football program has announced its recruiting class for the 2008 season. USF head coach Kalen DeBoer is proud to bring in student athletes from 10 different states.

“We feel we have a special group of young men who will no doubt add to the strong tradition of USF football. Not only are they outstanding football players, they also have a high level of character and are great in their classroom pursuits,” DeBoer said. “We’re excited about what the future holds as we move toward our goal of wining another national title.”

Finishing his third season as head coach of the Cougars, DeBoer has compiled a 38-3 record and is 9-2 in the postseason. The 2007 Cougars finished with a 13-1 record and a No. 2 national ranking.

2008 Recruiting Class
South Dakota
Eric Anderson a 6-foot-1, 220-pound tight end from Irene, SD joins the 2008 recruiting class for USF. Eric played football for Irene-Wakonda High School where he was a three-time 1st team All-Conference selection. The last two seasons, Eric has been an Honorable Mention candidate for All-State and Elite 45. For his career, Eric has 68 receptions for 1154 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also had 280 career tackles, eight interceptions, three of which were returned for touchdowns, and nine fumble recoveries. Eric is looking to major in Elementary Education with an emphasis in coaching. His parents are Mark and Pat Anderson.

Coach DeBoer on Eric: “Eric’s work ethic and ability level shines through on film. He will no doubt have a significant impact for us at the tight-end position.”

Bo Bearshield a 5-foot-9, 180-pound defensive back, joins the USF recruiting class of 2008. Bo is from Gregory, SD and played his high school football at Gregory High School. In 2007, Bo was an Elite 45 Honorable Mention selection, an All-State defensive back as well as an All-Conference selection. In his career at Gregory, Bo had 3307 yards rushing with 33 touchdowns and on defense he totaled 192 tackles, 9 sacks, 6 interceptions, and 5 fumble recoveries. Bo would like to major in either Computer Science or Business. Bo’s parents are Willie and Lori Bearshield.

Coach DeBoer on Bo: “Bo has been a dynamic player for a long time at the high school level. We believe that he is going to transition very well to the next level. When I think of Bo, I think of a play-maker.”

Tyler Bergh is a 6-foot, 170 pound running back from Crooks, SD. Tyler attended Tri-Valley High school where they won the State 11-B Championship in 2007. Tyler was All Big Sioux Conference, 11-B All State, and a member of the Elite 45 team in 2007.

This past year, Tyler had 1,040 yards rushing with 9 rushing touchdowns, 300 passing yards, and 3 touchdown passes. On defense, Tyler had 36 tackles and 4 interceptions. Tyler’s parents are Troy and Cyndi Bergh. Tyler is undecided in his college major.

Coach DeBoer on Tyler: “Tyler is one of those players who has done just about everything. We are really pleased to have his leadership and athletic ability coming to Sioux Falls this next year.”

Trevor Engelson, a senior at Roosevelt High School has decided to continue his academic and athletic career at the University of Sioux Falls. Trevor was an All-State Academic and All-Conference performer for the Roughriders at the fullback position. Standing at 5-foot-9, 222-pounds, Trevor was also voted by his teammates the 2007 and 2006 Roughrider Unsung Hero Award. Engelson has been a part of a successful program at Roosevelt that has complied back to back State Championships. His parents are Randy and Kathy Engelson. While attending the University of Sioux Falls, Trevor plans to study Exercise Science and Pre-Medicine.

Coach DeBoer on Trevor: “Trevor has tremendous work ethic and dedication level that really impresses me. Trevor has already developed himself very well in the weight room and will be an outstanding addition to our roster.”

Ryan Forsstrom a 6-foot, 165-pound wide receiver from Tea, SD joins the 2008 USF recruiting class. Ryan played his high school football at Tea High School where he was a team captain and offensive MVP. In 2007, Ryan had 23 receptions for 409 yards and 6 touchdowns. Ryan would like to major in Media Studies. His parents are Dan and Billie Jo Forsstrom.

Coach DeBoer on Ryan: “Ryan will be a two sport athlete for us here at Sioux Falls. He will also be a member of our baseball team, which shows his versatility.”

Jake Hahne a 6-foot-4, 220-pound defensive end joins the Cougars in the 2008 recruiting class. Jake played his high school football at Gregory High School. In 2007, Jake was an Elite 45 Honorable Mention selection, an All-State linebacker as well as an All-Conference selection. For his career, Jake has totaled 264 tackles, 9 sacks, 6 interceptions, and 2 fumble recoveries. Jake is undecided in his college major. Jake is the son of Melanie Kayl.

Coach DeBoer on Jake: “Jake has everything you desire in a defensive football player. He has a rare combination of size and athleticism that is going to make him an impact guy on the defensive line. We couldn’t be happier to have Jake on board with us.”

Cory Hartley joins USF from Saint Thomas More High School in Rapid City. Cory is a 6 foot 2, 210-pound defensive end that played in the State Championship for Saint Thomas More each of the last 4 years. He was also an All-Conference selection in 2007. Cory is undecided in his college major. His parents are Randy and Wendy Hartley.

Coach DeBoer on Cory: “Cory is also a player that comes from a great high school program. He was an impact player for St. Thomas More on the line of scrimmage, and will definitely be a player for the Cougars in the future at the defensive line position.”

Kyle Hilsabeck joins USF from Roosevelt High School, in Sioux Falls, SD. Kyle played on the two State Championship teams for Roosevelt in 2006 and 2007. Kyle is a 6-foot, 175-pound defensive back. Kyle is looking to major in Business while attending USF. His parents are Steve Hilsabeck and Renee Holman.

Coach DeBoer on Kyle: “Kyle is a great pick up for us here at USF. He has championship experience and a tremendous ability to close on the football. Kyle will fit into our secondary very nicely.”

Alex Hollibaugh joins the Cougars from Saint Thomas More High School in Rapid City, SD. Alex is a 6-foot-1, 195-pound running back that rushed for 1341 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2007. Alex also had 80 tackles and 2 interceptions both of which were returned for touchdowns. In 2007, Alex was an Elite 45 Honorable Mention selection, an All-State running back as well as an All-Conference running back. Alex is looking to major in Criminal Justice. His parents are Robert and Pamela Hollibaugh

Coach DeBoer on Alex: “We were really excited to land Alex. He is a superior talent from an outstanding team. We like his combination of size and speed and feel he projects very well at the collegiate level.”

Brett Jensen comes to the University of Sioux Falls from Viborg High School. He is a 5-foot-10, 160-pound defensive back. While at Viborg, Brett had 542 yards rushing with 15 touchdowns, and 1138 yards passing with 9 touchdowns. On defense, Brett totaled 129 tackles, 15 of which were for loss and 12 sacks. Brett was named an All-Conference performer in 2005-2007. He was a member of the 2007 Elite 45 team as well as an Honorable Mention All-State Linebacker in 2007. Brett is looking to major in Exercise Science. His parents are Ordell and Julie Jensen.

Coach DeBoer on Brett: “Brett ‘Juice’ Jensen is an extremely versatile player that every coach values. We look forward to having Brett in our secondary at USF.”

Ryan Lang is a 6-foot-1, 270-pound offensive lineman from Roosevelt High School in Sioux Falls, SD. In 2007, Lang was voted the Most Valuable Offensive Lineman for his team, All City, and also a team captain. Lang was a part of a Roosevelt team that captured the back to back 11 AA State Championships in 2006 and 2007. Ryan is the son of Kim Lang. At USF Lang plans to study Education.

Coach DeBoer on Ryan: “Ryan is definitely an unsung type of player, and we feel very fortunate to have him on with us as a Cougar. Ryan’s commitment and focus on the game of football is unparalleled by very few.”

Andrew Martin, a 6-foot-1, 305-pound offensive lineman, will be joining the 2008 Cougar recruiting class. Andrew played football for Roosevelt High School in Sioux Falls. Martin was a part of the 2006 11 AA State Championship team. His parents are Douglas and Jan Martin.

Coach DeBoer on Andrew: “Andrew has the size and strength that interests all coaches. We are looking for Andrew to carry that over to the college game as a part of our offensive line.”

Tyler Ollerich joins the Cougars from Lyman High School. Tyler is a 6-foot-3, 185-pound quarterback. He is a three time All-Conference selection along with the 2007 Conference Player of the Year Honor. Tyler was also an Elite 45 selection in 2007. His career totals include 4,000 passing yards and 65 touchdowns. Tyler is looking to major in Exercise Science. His parents are Jeff and Rita Ollerich.

Coach DeBoer on Tyler: “Tyler is a really solid talent with some refined skills. Tyler is going to be a good fit here at USF.”

Mark Sayler joins USF after a great career for Scotland High School, in Scotland, SD. Mark is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound wide receiver. In 2007, Mark was named the Joe Robbie award winner in the State championship game. He was also an Elite 45 selection, a first team All-State selection as well as an All-Conference selection. Mark played on Scotland’s state championship teams in 2006 and 2007. In his senior season, Mark had 1800 yards rushing and 27 touchdowns. On defense, Mark grabbed 14 interceptions. Mark is undecided about his major. His parents are JoAnn and Lynn Ireland and Terry and Kristy Sayler.

Coach DeBoer on Mark: “Mark is quite simply the most versatile athlete in this years recruiting class. Mark’s play-making ability is something to behold. There is no doubt that he is going to have a big impact on our program.”

Jeff Weidner comes to USF from Winner, SD. Jeff is an All-Conference defensive end, and an All-State guard. Jeff was also an Academic All-State selection for Winner. He will play on the offensive line for USF. Jeff is looking to major in Mathematics while at USF. His parents are Ron and Mavis Weidner.

Coach DeBoer on Jeff: “Jeff has performed very well on both sides of the ball at the high school level. We are pleased to have Jeff joining our offensive line core.”

Tim Voegeli from Harrisburg High School in Harrisburg, SD joins the Cougars in the 2008 recruiting class. Tim is a 6-foot-2, 185-pound wide receiver. Tim was a two-time All-Conference selection, two-time All-State selection, and was an Elite 45 selection in 2007. For his career, Tim has 61 receptions for 1225 yards and 9 touchdowns. Tim is undecided in his college major. Tim’s parents are Pam and Roger Oppold and Keith and Tami Voegeli

Coach DeBoer on Tim: “The Harrisburg program that Tim hails from has been very good to us over the years. Tim has a leadership mentality that we seek and is also an excellent football player.”

Wyoming
Braden Benson, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound wide receiver from Gillette, WY. Braden comes from Campbell County High School where he was 2nd Team All-State, 1st Team All-Conference, and 1st Team Super 25. In 2007, Braden threw 131 passes while completing 52 for 859 yards. On the ground, Braden was also productive rushing for a total of 670 yds and totaled 6 touchdowns. As a team, Campbell County High School was a 2007 5A Semi-Finalist and 2006 5A State Champions. Benson is the son of Bret and Laurie Benson.

Coach DeBoer on Braden: “Braden is a tremendous all-around athlete which is very evident on film. He has the ability to play so many different positions, we are confident that he will be a valuable weapon for us on the offensive side of the ball.”

Josh Dunkelberger is a 6-foot, 195-pound running back out of Sheridan, WY. Josh was an All-State running back, Super 25, All-Conference, and the Sheridan County Player of the Year. Josh is the son of Dave and Misti Dunkelberger. Josh plans to study business at USF

Coach DeBoer on Josh: “Josh really flourished this past year under Coach Don Julian’s offensive system, which is encouraging because it is very similar to a number of things that we do here at USF. We are excited to have Josh with us because many of the strengths that he has shown will parlay into great success on the collegiate field of play.”

Dustin McCalla, out of Sheridan Wyoming will look to make his presence felt on the offensive side of the ball. Dustin at 6-foot, 175-pounds will look to play receiver. Dustin also has the ability to help out on special teams as a punter. McCalla is the son of Dean and Tracy McCalla.

Coach DeBoer on Dustin: “We really feel like Dustin is a hidden gem for us. Dustin missed a significant portion of his senior season due to injury, and therefore flew under the radar. Dustin is also a guy who can excel at multiple positions, which is a big help to us on offense.”

Ray Moore comes to USF from Sundance High School in Wyoming. Moore stands at 6-foot-1, 190-pounds. Moore was voted Wyoming Super 25 as a senior. Other awards that Ray has received are as listed; Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, 2A Offensive Player of the year, All-State, and All-Conference. At USF Moore plans to study Mathematics Education. Ray is the son of Doug and Gerri Moore.

Coach DeBoer on Ray: “Ray is a talent in more ways than one. We are excited about Ray’s all-around athletic prowess, as he is an outstanding player on both sides of the ball. We feel like Ray will make major contributions in the future of the USF program.”

Nebraska
Dustin Bergmeier, a 6-foot, 190-pound defensive back comes to USF from Millard North High School in Omaha, NE. Dustin helped Millard North become a State Runner-UP in 2007, while earning All-District Honors and Honorable Mention All-State. Dustin, the son of Jay and Nancy Bergmeier will study Business at the University of Sioux Falls.

Coach DeBoer on Dustin: “Dustin is a very intelligent player out of a top level high school program. These qualities are going to help Dustin go a long way towards becoming a significant player in our defensive schemes.”

Gerad Donahue, a 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebacker from Millard North High School. Gerad was voted to the 2nd Team Omaha World Journal All-Nebraska, 2nd Team Lincoln Journal Star Super-State, All-Division Team, and All-District Team. Gerad is the son of Terry and Deb Donahue. At USF, Gerad plans to study Physical Therapy.

Coach DeBoer on Gerad: “Gerad is one of the most physical players we have signed this year. He is a big-time hitter coming from a big-time program. We expect significant things from Gerad in the future as he fills out his frame.”

Scott Grachek is a 6-foot-1, 255-pound offensive lineman from Millard West High School in Omaha, NE. Scott was named 1st team All-District, 2nd Team All-Metro, 1st Team All-Division for the 2007 season. Scott is looking to major in Accounting while at USF. Scott is the son of Wayne Jr. and Jeri Grachek.

Coach DeBoer on Scott: “Scott is a great offensive lineman for our system. He has a combination of a big frame and great feet which we are anxious to develop. I am sure it will be difficult to keep Scott off the field for long.”

Craig Herman comes to USF from Millard West High School in Omaha, NE. Craig, a 6-foot-3, 250-pound offensive lineman, was a 1st team All-Metro, All-District, 2nd Team Omaha World Herald, All Nebraska Lincoln Journal Star 2nd Team Super State selection in 2007. Craig will major in Criminal Justice. Craig’s parents are Kathy and Gary Herman.

Coach DeBoer on Craig: “Craig is what we call a ‘finisher’ on tape, which is something we are always after at the collegiate level. Craig is always looking for the next defender to attack. We are thrilled that Craig will be in a Cougar uniform next year.”

Alex Rapp, son of Robert and Michelle Rapp, is a criminal justice major from South Sioux City High School in South Sioux City, NE. He is a 6-foot, 210-pound linebacker. In 2007, Alex was named to the Sioux City Journal All-Metro Football team, River Cities Conference All Conference team, and District B-1 All District Football Team.

Coach DeBoer on Alex: “Alex had a very productive career as a prep stand-out. We are looking forward to developing Alex and seeing him grow in our program.

Austin Schwery, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker from Millard North in Omaha, NE brings a wealth of playoff experience to the University of Sioux Falls. Austin was apart of a Millard North team that won the 2005 Class A State Championship, a 2006 Class A Semi-Finalist, and a 2007 Class A Runner-Up. Schwery was voted a 2007 All State Honorable Mention as well as 2007 All-District Team. Austin is the son of Dale and Janice Schwery.

Coach DeBoer on Austin: “Austin is a physical player who covers sideline to sideline. He really stands out on film with his ability to disengage from would-be blockers. Austin is a great signing for us here at USF.”

Matt Spain joins the University of Sioux Falls from Valentine High School, in Valentine Nebraska. Matt will join the USF team as on offensive lineman. In 2007, Matt played in the State Championship and was an All-District selection. While at USF, Matt would like to major in either Secondary Education or Criminal Justice. Matt’s parents are Jeff and Sonja Spain

Coach DeBoer on Matt: “Matt is a very aggressive football player who we believe can grow into a very good all-around player. His quickness is definitely an asset and bodes well for us in the future.”

Minnesota
Mitch Dunbar joins the 2008 recruiting class at USF. Mitch attended Cambridge-Isanti High School in MN where he was an All-Conference selection his junior and senior year. He was an All-Section selection his senior year as well. Mitch had 833 yards rushing, 208 yards receiving, with 49 tackles and 2 interceptions. Mitch will be majoring in math Education at USF. His parents are Jon and Deanna Dunbar.

Coach DeBoer on Mitch: “We are happy to have Mitch joining our program here at USF. He has a great combination of speed and athleticism that will translate well for us.”

Brock Madsen a Raymond, MN native played his high school football at MacCray High School. Brock is a 5-foot-11 wide receiver that was West Central All Area his junior and senior year. He was also named Little Sioux All-Conference his junior and senior seasons. Brock’s career numbers include 199 tackles, 1770 rushing yards, 600 receiving yards, 12 interceptions and 17 total touchdowns. Brock is thinking about majoring in Biology or Exercise Science. His parents are John and Brenda Madsen.

Coach DeBoer on Brock: “Brock is a very versatile threat. We feel that Brock could have an impact at several positions.”

Sam Solberg, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound QB/athlete out of Cambridge-Isanti High School in Cambridge, MN. Sam was a duel threat quarterback while throwing for over 1,000 yards and also rushing for 700 yards; collecting 8 touchdowns through the air and 14 touchdowns on the ground. Sam’s post season honors include: Isanti County News Fall Athlete of the Year, All Conference, Most Valuable Player in the Mississippi 8 Conference, All 7 5A Section, Minnesota Vikings First Team All State, Associated Press All State Honorable Mention Team, and St. Paul Press All State Honorable Mention Team. Sam is the son Mark and Kelly Solberg and will major in Biology at the University of Sioux Falls.

Coach DeBoer on Sam: “Sam was one of our first commits here at USF this year, and we are excited about his passion for the game of football. Sam is a very good athlete and we are happy to have him on board.”

Iowa
Corey DeBey is from Rock Rapids, IA. DeBey is a 5-foot-11, 225-pound offensive lineman from Central Lyon High School. DeBey was a 1st Team All District and 2nd Team All-State selection in 2007. His team was State Champions in 2006 and State Runner-Up in 2007 in Class 2A. DeBey is undecided in a college major. His parents are Roger and Lisa DeBey.

Coach DeBoer on Corey: “Corey continues a long standing tradition of commits from Central Lyon High School. Corey was definitely the anchor on a great line for CLGR this past year. We expect his work ethic and winning ways to continue here at USF.”

Chase Koskovich from Kingsley, IA stands at 6-foot-3, 230-pounds. Chase comes to USF as a defensive lineman. As a senior at Kingsley-Pierson, Chase was honored as an Academic All Conference performer. Koskovich also earned the privilege to be a part of the 1st Team All District, 2nd Team All State Iowapreps.com, and 3rd Team All State INA. When Chase’s career concluded he finished with more than 350 tackles. At USF, Chase looks to study Business Management. Chase is the son of Kelly and Joan Koskovich.

Coach DeBoer on Chase: “Chase is going to make the transition from linebacker to defensive line here at USF. He has a great deal of potential and a frame that will only get bigger. We are pleased to have Chase on-board.”

California
Scott Hawkins a 6-foot-2, 271-pound offensive lineman comes to Sioux Falls from Laguna Creek High School in Elk Grove, CA. Scott was a four year starting center who was listed as a Lineman Inc, Northern California Top 15 as well as 2007 Delta Valley Honorable Mention selection as a senior. Scott also was chosen to represent his school as a scholar-athlete. At the University of Sioux Falls, Scott plans to study Communications. Scott’s parents are Derrick and Michele Tucker.

Coach DeBoer on Scott: “We are pleased to have Scott joining our program. Scott really stood out on film as a go-getter, and that can only benefit him at the next level.”

Colorado
Anthony Baldassari out of D’Evelyn High School in Denver, CO is a 6-foot, 175-pound wide receiver. Anthony was a two time All-State selection, as well as a three time First Team All-Conference selection. He has returned nine kicks for touchdowns during his prep career. Anthony is the son of John Baldassari and Laurie Weber. Anthony plans to study Business at the University of Sioux Falls.

Coach DeBoer on Anthony: “Anthony definitely has the ‘wow’ factor any time he touches the football. We are looking for Anthony to not only be a great offensive player but also an explosive kick returner for us here at USF.”

Dan Boyer out of D’Evelyn High School in Denver, CO is a 6-foot-2, 220-pound lineman that will look to compete at tight end. Dan was a part of an 8-3 playoff team his senior year. Boyer was recognized as an All-Conference player who was noted for causing havoc on interior offensive lineman while producing 8 sacks, 54 tackles, and 25 quarterback hurries. Dan is the son of John and Sharon Boyer.

Coach DeBoer on Dan: “Dan is making a major transition for us here at USF. Dan was an outstanding interior defensive lineman for D’Evelyn, and we are going to utilize the physical skills he gained there at tight end. We are pleased that Dan is going to be a Cougar.”

Illinois
Sean Santiago, son of Michael and Barbara Santiago, comes to USF from Mundelein, IL. Sean is a defensive lineman with good size at 6-foot, 285-pounds. He was a team captain, four-year starter and All-Conference selection for Mundelein High School. Sean is looking to major in Secondary Education.

Coach DeBoer on Sean: “We feel like we will get immediate contributions from Sean next year. Sean was an outstanding player at a very high level of high school football and should be a great anchor on our defensive line for years to come.”

Transfers
Lorenzo Brown, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound quarterback front Bristol, CT. Brown is expected to take over the starting job under center for the Cougars in 2008, replacing two-time All-American Chad Cavender. Brown was named an All-American Honorable Mention at North Iowa Area Community College following the 2007 season in which the sophomore threw for more than 2200 yards and 20 touchdowns on a 54-percent completion percentage. A dual-threat quarterback, Brown also ran for 416 yards and six scores.

Coach DeBoer on Lorenzo: “We obviously have big plans for Lorenzo. We feel that his athletic ability and throwing skills will be a major benefit for our offense this coming year.”

Matt Dixon is a 6-foot-4, 270-pound Defensive Lineman from Minnesota West Community College. Matt is from Pine River, MN. At Minnesota West, he was an All-Conference selection as well as being named Defensive Lineman of the Year with his 66 tackles and 6 sacks. Matt’s parents are Bruce and Lilly Dixon. He will be majoring in Criminal Justice.

Coach DeBoer on Matt: “Matt will be one of the strongest players on our team. He has a very physical presence, which will bode well for our defensive front.”

Shawn Flanagan joins USF after playing last year at Eastern Oregon and the University of Oregon prior to that. Shawn is a 6-foot-5, 305-pound offensive lineman that is looking to study Political Science. Last season for Eastern Oregon, he was a First-Team All-Frontier Conference as well as an Honorable Mention All-American. At Oregon, Shawn started 10 games for the Ducks during his red-shirt freshman and sophomore seasons. Shawn’s parents are Terry Perkins and Mike Flanagan.

Coach DeBoer on Shawn: “Shawn brings a ton of playing experience to our offensive line. We are very excited to have a player of his caliber on our squad for next year.”

Adam Halseth is a 5-foot-11, 185-pound transfer from Northern State University. Adam will look to play wide receiver at USF. As a true freshman at Northern, Adam had 11 catches for 123 yards and 1 receiving touchdown. Adam is a graduate from Lincoln High in Sioux Falls, SD. At USF Adam will study Exercise Science. Adam is the son of Jeff and Carol Halseth.

Coach DeBoer on Adam: “Adam is a nice addition to our program and we are pleased to have him back in Sioux Falls.”

Lavell Jackson is a 5-foot-9 transfer from the University of Nebraska-Omaha who will be a junior and major in Communications next fall for the NAIA national runner-up Cougars. “We’re excited to have Lavell join our program," DeBoer said. "He will be a great addition to our defensive backfield.” Jackson, who is the brother of Sioux Falls Storm defensive back and University of South Dakota alum Andre Fields, attended Thornton Township High School in Illinois and was named one of the top 100 players in the state by the Chicago Sun times.

Marlon Lobban is a 6-foot-2, 245-pound outside linebacker/defensive end from Pittsburg, Calif. A transfer from Los Medanos Community College, Lobban figures to be a key player in the 2008 edition of the Cougar defense. “Marlon is a great athlete,” DeBoer said. “He brings a unique combination of size and quickness that will allow him to be a play-maker in our scheme.” This past season at Los Medanos College, Lobban recorded eight sacks, was second on the team with two interceptions and led the team in total tackles en route to First-Team All-Northern California honors. In his two-year career, he had three interceptions, 12 sacks and 163 tackles. “I look forward to working with Marlon,” linebackers’ and special teams coach Jon Anderson said. “He will be an impact player for us and help make sure that our defense remains one of the best in the nation.” Lobban is the son of Hugh G. Lobban and Yvette G. Williams and will major in Child Development.

Jared Reding comes to the University of Sioux Falls from Vacaville, CA. He is a 6-foot-1, 220- pound linebacker from Solano Community College. In 2007, he led his team in interceptions. Jared is a Business major. His parents are Dan and Theresa Reding.

Coach DeBoer on Jared: “Jared is a veteran player who will not only bring physical play but also great intellect to our linebacking core. We welcome Jared to our team.”

TJ Ross comes to the University of Sioux Falls as a transfer from Solano Junior College in Napa, CA. TJ stands at 5-foot-10, 250-pounds and was an All Bay Valley Conference Defensive Lineman selection in 2007. Along with honors TJ’s accomplishments includes the title of Defense MVP. Ross, the son of Kenny and Cindy Ross of Napa, plans to major in Business and minor in Criminal justice.

Coach DeBoer on TJ: “TJ is a very reliable player who has excelled at the junior college level. TJ should have an immediate impact for us this spring and beyond.”
