USF volleyball signs MB and OH

The University of Sioux Falls volleyball program has added two more signees for the 2008-2009 season, head coach Lisa Mathes announced. Middle blocker Alyssa Chambers (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and outside hitter Kinzie Van Voorst (Hull, Iowa) bring the incoming class up to four.

Chambers, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker from Roosevelt High School, led Class AA in blocks with 1.170 per game. She also registered 221 blocks in her career, including 12 in one match. Not just a defensive standout, she emerged as a consistent hitter, swinging at a .317 clip with 2.14 kills per game last fall and as a result, was named to the All-State and All-Conference teams.

“We’re very proud to be bringing Alyssa into the program,” Mathes said. “We feel she’s one of the top talents here in Sioux Falls. She will challenge for time right away.”

Van Voorst is a 5-foot7 outside hitter that averaged 3.3 kills a game on a .264 killing efficiency from Boyden-Hull High School. She also was a reliable server, recording 30 aces in 261 attempts and had a .916 serving percentage.

“Kinzie is very athletic,” Mathes said. “She’s one of those players who just makes things happen, and we look forward to having her on the court for us this fall.”
