USD Playing In First Ever National Semi-Final Game Tonight

By Tim Peters

In one of the longest games in tournament history, USD survived the game of runs and made one more play than Washburn to advance to their first ever Final Four.

USD Head Coach Chad Lavin says, "I know it's my 30th year of men's and women's basketball, and I've never been in a game like that. That was absolutely incredible."

"You know, I don't think we've been in a game where it's we've allowed so many big runs. They came out on fire," said Jeana Hoffman

"I'm so proud of our kids, to withstand that barrage takes a certain amount of toughness not to give in b/c it looked like we had it a couple of times," said Coach Lavin.

Early in the second half, it appeared the Coyotes first ever trip to the Elite Eight would be a one and done experience as Washburn opened the half on a 15-2 run.

But the Coyotes refused to pack it in as they battled back, as Bridgette Yeager and Jeana Hoffman put the Coyotes and their shoulders, making big basket after big basket to propel the Coyotes into the Final Four.

Jeanna Hoffman says, "Sometimes when you look up at that clock, there comes a certain point where as seniors, as leaders, you tell yourself now you make a play, now you pull that defensive rebound that probably shouldn't have been yours or you make that drive to the basket and you finish when you know maybe it was a tough shot. Obviously, that's what the post season is all about, it's about making big plays."

Ashley Robinette says, "I think everybody in this tournament is nervous. You're playing against the best D-II teams here. You're playing to play another game, so I think when you get to this level, everybody has that love for the game where you don't want this to be your last."

"That's our kids, they make plays. They somehow find a way. They found a way all year," said Coach Lavin.
