USD’s Lucky Huber Earns NCC Outdoor Women's Coach of the Year Honor

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The North Central Conference (NCC) has announced its 2008 postseason Outdoor Track and Field awards this afternoon. The University of South Dakota’s Lucky Huber was named as the NCC Women’s Outdoor Coach of the Year in a vote among league coaches.

Huber, who is in his 14th season at USD, was selected the NCC Women’s Outdoor Coach of the Year for the sixth time (1997, 1998, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008). Huber, who was the 2008 NCC Indoor Coach of the Year, has a combined 12 NCC Coach of the Year honors (six outdoor, six indoor).

This past weekend, Huber directed the Coyotes to a fifth consecutive outdoor title. At the outdoor championship meet in Sioux Falls, the Coyotes won 12 of 22 events as they rolled up an NCC record 255 points, surpassing North Dakota State’s mark of 239.33 in 2002. Huber has coached 13 USD women’s teams that won either indoor or outdoor NCC Championships.

Throughout his career, Huber has also been selected the North Central Region Coach of the Year in 1997, 1998 and 2006. This is the sixth time in his career that he has been named indoor and outdoor coach of the year in the same season.

In 1998 Huber directed the Coyotes to a second-place team finish at the NCAA Indoor Nationals, which is the highest finish by a USD indoor or outdoor squad in track and field history. Also in 1998, he coached his team to a fifth-place team finish at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Nationals. He led USD to a sixth-place finish at the 2008 NCAA Division II Indoor Nationals.

In three of the past four years, Huber has been named the U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association women’s regional outdoor coach of the year. Huber was selected the national outdoor coach of the year by the USTFCCCA in 2004.

Huber will direct the Coyote women’s team at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships on May 22-24 in Walnut, Calif.
