Dakota Wesleyan Men’s Basketball Announces Recruiting Class
MITCHELL, S.D. — Dakota Wesleyan University head men’s basketball coach John Hemenway has announced the signing of the 2008-09 recruiting class to join the DWU men’s basketball program for the 2008-09 season.
Along with previously released Mike Long (O’Neil Public High School, O’Neil, Neb.) and Jordan Long (Mitchell High School, Mitchell, S.D.), Iowa Lakes Community College transfer Mitch Bain has committed to join the Tiger men’s basketball program.
Bain, a 6-1 195-pound point guard, averaged 12.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per game in his sophomore season at Iowa Lakes Community College. The Nassau, Bahamas-native shot 35.4 percent from 3-point range and had 80 assists on the season in leading ILCC to a 21-10 record.
Also committed to join the DWU men’s basketball program for the 2008-09 season is Zachary Anderson from Canistota High School (Canistota, S.D.), Chase Fredericksen from Kimball High School (White Lake, S.D.), Samuel Hallman from Alden-Conger High School (Alden, Minn.), Jacob Kneeland from Summit High School (Summit, S.D.), Mitchell Reed from Northwestern High School (Brentford, S.D.), and Alex Warkenthien from Woonsocket High School (Woonsocket, S.D.).
Anderson, a 5-11 160-pound guard, averaged 12.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game in his senior season for Canistota. He was named 2006-07 and 2007-08 All-Conference Second Team. He was also named his team’s Offensive Most Valuable Player his senior, junior and sophomore seasons, and was a four-year letterwinner in football and three-year letterwinner in track and basketball for the Hawks.
Fredericksen, a 5-10 150-pound guard, averaged 15.7 points per game and shot 38.0 percent from 3-point range in his senior season for the Kiotes. He received All-Conference Third Team honors his senior year. He was a four-year letterwinner in basketball, track and golf and three-year letterwinner in football at Kimball High School.
Hallman, a 6-3 165-pound forward, received All-Conference Honorable Mention his senior year at Alden-Conger High School. He averaged 16 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in his senior season. He is a three-year letterwinner and starter for the Knights in basketball. He also participated in golf, football and cross country at Alden-Conger High.
Kneeland, a 6-1 180-pound guard, was named 2006-07 and 2007-08 All-Conference. He was named the Conference Most Valuable Player for his senior season, and ended his high school career with 1,191 points. In his senior season, he averaged 19.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Kneeland was named Male Student of the Year at Summit High School and received the Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete Award. He also participated in football and track for the Eagles.
Reed, a 6-0 170-pound guard, is a three-year letterwinner in basketball and baseball, and a four-year letterwinner in football for the Wildcats. He averaged 15.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in his senior season. He is a two-time All-Lake Region Conference Team selection.
Warkenthien, a 6-4 185-pound forward, averaged 16.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in his senior season. He was named Academic All-State and All-Conference Third Team. He was a four-year letterwinner in basketball and three-year letterwinner in track for the Redmen. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the honor roll.
The Tigers finished their second consecutive 20-win season with a 24-9 overall record.
