Stampede Announce 25 Man Roster

Sioux Falls, SD— The Sioux Falls Stampede today announced their 25-man training camp roster for the upcoming 2008-09 season. All players will report to Sioux Falls over Labor Day weekend and participate in pre-season games. The Stampede must reduce their roster to 23 players prior to the start of the regular season which will begin the first weekend in October.

The roster includes 14 forwards, nine defensemen and two goaltenders. Nine players return from last year’s team, including forwards Terry Broadhurst, Patrick Divjak, Pierre native Matt Farris, Marc Rodriguez, Jeff Rohrkemper, Robbie Vrolyk, Dane Walters , defenseman Max Grover and goaltender Eric Hartzell.

Vrolyk is the Stampede’s top returning scorer, posting 32 points (17g, 15a) in 55 games while Divjak added 23 points (10g, 13a) in 55 games. Hartzell will enter camp as the starting goaltender after posting an impressive 19-9-2 record with a 2.75 GAA and a .913 save percentage in his first season with the Herd. The White Bear Lake, MN native went 13-5-0 with a 2.23 GAA and a .936 save percentage in his last 18 games of the season.

The roster also includes 10 draft picks from the 2008 USHL Draft, including first round selection (8th overall) David Donnellan. Donnellan, a defenseman, posted 37 points (11g, 26a) in 23 games for Eau Claire Memorial High School in Wisconsin. Joining Donnellan on defense is fifth round draft pick Chris Rumble. Rumble (6’0”, 189-pounds) had seven points (3g, 4a) and 57 penalty minutes in 35 games with the New England Jr. Falcons (EJHL) last season. He is the son of former NHL’er Darren Rumble who was a first round draft pick (20th overall) of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1987 NHL Draft and won the Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2003-04.

Forward newcomers include third round draft choice David Eddy who recorded 64 points (31g, 33a) in 29 games with Woodbury High school and fourth round draft pick Ryan Kesti who had 48 points (19g, 29a) in 27 games with Red Wing High School last season. Other forwards include eighth round draft pick Victor Anilane of Sweden. Anilane had 40 points (23g, 17a) in 38 games in the Swedish Elite League last season. Josh Holmstrom, the brother of former Stampede captain Ben Holmstrom , is also on the roster. Last season, he led the Colorado Rampage in scoring with 58 points (25g, 33a) in 53 games while leading them to their third straight Colorado State Championship. Holmstrom was taken in the 14th round of the USHL draft by the Stampede.
