NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Aberdeen native Taylor Mehlhaff has agreed to terms with the New Orleans Saints.

The former Wisconsin Badger was the first kicker drafted by the Saints since the team drafted Morten Anderson way back in 1982.

“Taylor is the only kicker that we really considered drafting,” general manager Mickey Loomis said after the draft in April. “He is a strong-legged guy and has been consistent and improved each season. We are happy to have him.”

Mehlhaff made 50 field goals in 65 attempts in his Wisconsin career, including 21-of-25 as senior. He also converted 145 of 148 point-after tries while forcing touchbacks on 43 percent of his kickoffs. Mehlhaff was an All-Big Ten pick as a senior.
