(Mitchell)-- A mitchell woman and her two daughters feel the need for speed on their bikes.
Laura Klock, along with her 17-year old daughter Erika, and 14-year old daughter Karlee, recently set landspeed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.
Land speed racing is a family affair for these three. Laura Klock broke her own world record, of almost 154 miles per hour, in her bike class. Her daughters also set their own land speed records on the 5-mile salt flats course. Those three along with Michelle Mielke, also of Mitchell, made up the record setting Klock Werks team.
Laura Klock "As far as we know...we're the first mother-daughter trio...to hold landspeed records at the same time."
Brian Klock "What's amazing is their team went out their and set five records, some teams go out there 15-years and never get a record."
For Laura, who co-owns Klock Werks Kustom Cycles in Mitchell with her husband Brian. She started this sport, which is a race against time, three years ago. Her daughters tagged along and got involved. They all worry more about the others, .than themselves.
Erika Cobb "I worry about her, because she rides faster than the bike should sometimes, it wobbles some."
Laura "It's a dangerous sport, you have to know your bike, we have a lot of faith."
Karlee Cobb "I was one of the youngest out there, so that was neat."
the three hope to continue to set new records...at the yearly event...and they may get eventually get into some other forms of racing...
Laura "I would consider racing a car or drag racing a bike if that oppportunity ever came up."
Erika "I want to keep doing this...and continue to go faster and faster."
Karlee "My sister and I would like to race ATV...or if something else came along we would do that."
