Ticknor To Be Named New Skyforce Assistant Coach

By Tim Peters

(Sioux Falls) KSFY has learned that Duane Ticknor has been hired as the new assistant coach for the Sioux Falls Skyforce, joining new head coach Tony Fritts.

Ticknor resigned as the Dakota Wizards head coach earlier this month, after two years at the helm citing health reasons. Ticknor has diabetes and eye problems and says he doesn`t need the day-to-day stress of being a head coach.

Ticknor has family in the area and is originally from Vermillion.

The South Dakota native has qualified for the postseason in seven of his eight seasons as a professional head coach, including winning one championship (1996-97 IBA), while making it to the finals three times.

An official announcement from the Skyforce is planned for Wednesday.
