SMSU Announces Women's Basketball Schediule

MARSHALL, Minn. - Southwest Minnesota State head women’s basketball coach Mike Jewett has announced his team’s schedule for the 2009-10 season. The 27-game slate includes 14 home games, seven non-conference dates and a two-game outing to Omaha, Neb.

The Mustangs will open regular season play on Nov. 20 and 21 when they host Truman State (Mo.) and Hillsdale (Mich.) as part of the SMSU Classic. A two-game trip to Omaha, Neb., follows, with SMSU meeting up with Chadron State (Neb.) on Nov. 27 and Oklahoma Panhandle State on Nov. 28.

SMSU opens conference play on Dec. 5 when the Mustangs travel to defending national champion Minnesota State, Mankato. After two more NSIC contests, the Mustangs will break away from conference action for a trio of games. SMSU will host Division III foe Minnesota-Morris on Dec. 17, travel to NAIA opponent Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) on Dec. 21 and return home to take on NAIA Clarke (Iowa) on Dec. 29.

The Mustangs christen the new year with a four-game NSIC road stand that starts with Minnesota State Moorhead on Jan. 2 and ends with Upper Iowa on Jan. 9. SMSU returns to the R/A Facility on Jan. 15 and 16 when St. Cloud State and Concordia University, St. Paul come to Marshall.

Following a pair of road games against Augustana (Jan. 22) and Wayne State (Jan. 23), the Mustangs will settle in for a four-game homestand beginning with Minnesota Duluth on Jan. 29 and ending with Minnesota, Crookston on Feb. 6.

SMSU travels to SCSU and CU in mid-February before closing out their home schedule against MSU and WSC on Feb. 20 and 24.

The Mustangs conclude the regular season at Northern State on Feb. 27.

SMSU finished its 2008-09 campaign 14-16 and 6-14 in NSIC play. The Mustangs were 11th in the final conference standings.
