Levi Reiff Named NSIC Defensive Player of the Week

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Southwest Minnesota State University sophomore safety Levi Reiff (pronounced REEF) has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in SMSU’s road victory at Northern State on Saturday. The announcement came Monday morning from the NSIC office in St. Paul.

Reiff is the first Mustang player to earn a conference player of the week award this season.

Reiff, a 6-foot-3, 206-pound, native of Dell Rapids, S.D., recorded a game-high nine tackles, including six solo stops and also had an interception return for 71 yards to set up a Mustang touchdown in SMSU’s 34-10 victory. It was SMSU’s first victory in Aberdeen since 1990, breaking a seven-game losing streak.

Reiff has started all 10 games for SMSU this season and leads the team with 74 tackles, including 42 solo stops. He also has four pass break-ups, two interceptions, 1.5 tackles for loss and one fumble recovery.

SMSU is 4-6 overall, 3-6 NSIC and concludes the 2009 season on Saturday, Nov. 7, hosting MSU Moorhead. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at the Regional Event Center.
