(Sioux Falls) The Sioux Falls Stampede rallied from a two-goal deficit and scored five unanswered goals in a 5-2 victory over the Omaha Lancers Saturday night at the Sioux Falls Arena. The loss snapped the Lancers five game winning streak and improved the Herd’s record to 9-1-3 on the season. Omaha, who lost for the first time since October 17th, dropped to 13-2-0. The Stampede now trail Omaha by five points, with two games in hand, for first place in the West.

Matt Lindblad led the way with a goal and two assists while Anthony Day, Matt Farris, Ryan Misiak and Mike Voran all added goals in the win. Clay Witt earned his fourth win in goal, stopping 14 shots on the night.

Trailing 2-0 in the first period, the Stampede got on the board at 17:13 when Anthony Day deflected a shot from Lindblad in front of the Omaha net to make it a 2-1 game after one period. The goal came on the powerplay and was Day’s fourth of the season. The Stampede out shot the Lancers 11-8 in the period.

In the second, the Herd tied the game 7:04 in when Lindblad found Voran in the slot who wristed a shot past Omaha netminder Jeff Teglia to make it a 2-2 game. The Stampede took their first lead of the night when Matt Farris recorded his second goal of the season. Farris picked the puck up in the Stampede zone, raced past the Lancer defense down the left wing boards and fired a shot past Teglia to give the Herd a 3-2 lead.

In the third, the Stampede extended their lead just 56 seconds in, on the powerplay, when Lindblad tallied his fifth of the year. Dan Furlong started the play by firing a shot towards the net that went just wide, but bounced off the end boards back to Lindblad who stuffed it home to make it a 4-2 game. The Herd put the game away for good at 10:26 when Ryan Misak’s wrist shot right off the face-off went through pads of Teglia to make it a 5-2 game.

That’s all the Herd would need as they rolled to a 5-2 win and are now 5-0-1 in their last six games. The Stampede out shot the Lancers 27-16 on the night and finished 2 for 6 on the powerplay while Omaha was 1 for 4.

The Stampede return to action this Tuesday when they travel to Sioux City to face the Musketeers. Fans can watch the game “live” at Buffalo Wild Wings during the B2 Networks viewing party. The game will be shown on all the TV big screens starting at 7 PM. As always, the game can be heard on News Talk 1320 KELO-AM.
