Do you put sunscreen on your face, chest and arms every time you leave the house? It's easy to forget and only goes so far because you have to reapply regularly. An Australian based company has developed sun protective clothing and one Sioux Falls woman going through chemo therapy is sold on it.
Inside the Avera Cancer Institute in Sioux Falls you'll find The Care Store 2 months ago they started selling Coolibar... a line of clothes designed specifically to protect you from harmful ultraviolet rays. Jen Grossman is the Avera Care Store Manager. She says, "It has an ultraviolet protection of 50 plus which is phenomenal in the sense that most clothing you put on you think it's protecting you but really it only has a SPF of 5.. So this is a huge advantage."
The name Coolibar comes from a eucalyptus tree found in the harsh Australian outback.. the company .. like the tree.. provides welcome relief and protection from the sun because a lot of us aren't diligent about applying sun screen. Grossman says, "We've been talking about sunscreen for a long time but this is the first time clothing has been brought into the scenario."
Mary Campbell is going through chemo therapy and radiation treatment right now for her second bought of cancer. For her the Coolibar jacket and hat are much more than just pretty comfortable... although she says they are both... she knows it's essential for her to protect her skin... especially now. She says, "Since I am dong chemo and radiation, I'm extremely sensitive and extremely limited in what lotion I can put on when undergoing radiation so this is a perfect option."
The Care Store carries Coolibar hats, shirts and jackets both pull over and snap up and soon will carry pants and aqua wear. It's the only garment recommended by The Skin Cancer Foundation.
August 16th The Care Store is holding a big sale on Coolibar Clothes. The one day promotion will have drawings for 4 free Coolibar hats which regularly sell for $29.95. They will also have free refreshments.
