A slip and fall not only hurts but could require Orthopedic Surgery.

National Guardsman Sean Rogers might not make a professional basketball team with his moves on the court.Still, his footwork is pretty amazing considering he just had ankle surgery a few months ago.

"I feel like I'm back.100 percent," Rogers said. "He put five screws in my foot. Three months recovery time but I feel like I can do everything that I did before"

He was playing softball last summer and felt a pop along his arch as he was running bases. The pain was excruciating.

"At that point I was really concerned because being in the military we have to be able to do physical fitness tests," he said. "We have to be able to run two miles. I was really worried because the (emergency room) doctors weren't sure what was wrong with me."

He went to the Orthopedic Institute and surgery and rehab helped him regain his mobility. About half of all ankle injuries happen during sports. But there are a number of surgical techniques to restore ankle stability and get patients back out on the court or in the woods.

"I didn't think I was ever going to be able to do the things that I could do," he said. "I was really worried about hunting season so it was kind of tough."

Extensive running, exercise, or training also can overstress the ligaments, leading to injury. That's why its important to stretch and listen to your body, never run if you experience pain in the foot or ankle.
