Did you know that South Dakota is leading the way in developing the future of rural health care? Pilot programs through Avera Health and the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust will set the gold standard for care.

This week another grant from the Helmsley Trust started "Mission Lifeline" with the American Heart Association to help save lives lost to a specific type of heart attack called a S-T- Elevated Myocardial Infarction or STEMI. Basically this $9.4 million grant will buy equipment and set up a network to electronically send information about the patient to hospitals like Avera McKennan to determine the best course of action in the field.
