Avera St. Luke's in Aberdeen is joining a national trend by adding a FastCare clinic in a department store. It's located in the Shopko Store North Highway 281. The walk-in healthcare clinic is proving to be very popular among patients with sore throats, ear aches and urinary tract infections.
Rebecca Jonas is trying out the new Avera St. Luke's FastCare Clinic located near the pharmacy in the Shopko store on the northwest part of Aberdeen. It's the first of it's kind clinic in town. It opened in late July and is already exceeding expectations, so much so, extra staff has to come over from the hospital to help the Certified Nurse Practitioners who run it. They credit the heavy traffic to the price just $49 a visit (that includes lab work) and their extended hours.
Amy Stevahn is one of the CNP's who sees patients at FastCare. She says, "Before on weekends, when their primary physician's not open, they'd have to go the ER but with FastCare open 7 days a week, it's a great opportunity for patients to come in and be seen."
You know when you aren't feeling well, you want to get better as soon as you can. Here in Aberdeen they say they have the cure for the common wait at Shopko, it's called Avera St. Luke's FastCare and you can walk right in without an appointment.
Rebecca Jonas came in because she is feeling awful. "I had a sore throat and didn't know where to go. Everyone where else is way more expensive but this seemed cheaper. I got in right away and the doctor was good. I'll come again."
Amy Stevahn says, "We do rapid mono, rapid strep, pregnancy, flu testing and urinalysis for bladder infections, among other services."
They do have some restrictions. Since they don't have X-Ray machines here they can't help with broken bones, and the children have to be 18 months and older to be treated.
As for Rebecca Jonas, she's waiting for her test to confirm whether or not she has strep throat, but she says she already feels better knowing this didn't break the bank and she didn't have to wait.
