Before you know it school will be out for the summer and your kids will be begging you for something to do. Here's more on an upcoming camp that should be a home run, slam dunk, goal and a hole in one all wrapped in one.

Folks with the Avera Sports Institute have come up with a plan that is sure to big hit with your kids. They have put together a first of its kind for Sioux Falls called "The Fundamentals of Sports Camp". It's an hour a day, 5 days a week for three weeks. Weather won't be a problem either since the camp is their dome.

Avera Sports Institute Manager Jason Askew says, "It was a way for us to work with our charter members Dakota Gold Soccer, Todd Kolb Golf, Nate Tibbetts Basketball to offer a comprehensive sports skills camp here in our building for area youth this summer."

The kids, boys and girls, will be split into 3 age groups, 5 and 6 year olds in one group, 7 and 8 year olds in another and 9 and 10 year olds in the last group. Since they will learn a different skill each day, it might just bring out the Tiger Woods, Cal Ripken Jr., Lebron James or David Beckham in them.

Sioux Empire Baseball Association (SEBA) Director Lyle Smith says, "I think so many of these skills transcend all sports. It's not specifically geared to baseball. We are teaching the basic skills they'll need to know to play a lot of sports. As everyone can probably understand, the more skills you have the greater opportunity for success and enjoyment you'll have in the sport."

Organizers hope that while the kids will learn the proper techniques in each sport, along with hand and eye coordination/ foot and eye coordination, they'll also pick up some life skills.

Steve Burckhalter, Director of Dakota Gold Soccer Club, says, "Any time you work with other people it's super important and I think sports offers us a unique opportunity to teach that cooperation, sharing that's important for kids and really for adults too."

No matter what size of ball the kids find they excel in, the ultimate goal is for the kids to have a ball. The camp runs from June 8th through the 26th. If you want to enroll your children call the Avera Sports Institute 605.322.FAST
