Physical therapy helps people get back to full strength and get movement back in key parts of the body after an illness or injury. We asked a physical therapist in Aberdeen with Avera St. Luke's Hospital about the most common problem areas he treats.
Avera St. Luke's Physical Therapist Carl Bot says, "The most common things I see people for are upper back, neck pain or low back pain. Many times the guideline of knowing when to see a PT is if you are having something that's interfering with your life or stopping you from doing things you'd like to do. If it gets worse, a lot of times people use home remedies which focus on the symptoms rather than solving the problem. We try to look at each individual person and see how they are built and see what's working and not working as far as their motion, strength. Then we apply a specific and individualized treatment program to help optimize how they are performing and functioning. Really our goal is to establish an exercise program that they can maintain and do on their own that way they are in charge of their own wellness and health."
