One of Avera Sacred Heart's newly renovated rooms in the Women's Center.
Two years ago Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton started asking community members, staffers and doctors what kinds of changes they'd like to see in their Women's Center. Those changes came to fruition on March 1st. We asked Marilyn Lofflin, RN the Director of Womens and Childrens Services about those renovations.
Marilyn Lofflin, RN says, "One of the things women really seemed to want is a whirl pool or Jacuzzi tub for their recovery period. We demolished all the bathrooms and put in a whirl pool tubs and made it a spa like environment for their bathing experience. It's so relaxing for them. In addition, we added an in-room refrigerator. We always had a place for the partner to stay but we upgraded that. We put in flat screen TV's. All in all we added a much more family environment.
Q: What has the reaction been from patients and their families?
A: It's really been awesome. One patient said it feels like she is in a hotel room which is a really great compliment. One husband said he was really overwhelmed by the comfort and the cozy environment."
