Today's Scholar of the Week was born in Germany and eventually made his way to Parker, South Dakota where he'll graduate high school next spring.
But not before Josh Pauley makes an impact on his classmates and teachers first.
One of many graduation requirements at Parker High School is the senior project.
A project Josh Pauley has already started working on.
"It has to be approved but after that it's pretty much what are you interested in? Then however you want to learn it," says Josh.
Josh is making a chess board for his project.
He's also spending his time running cross country and track, being in school plays and National Honor Society along with student council.
"I don't think I have a day go by I'm not doing something unfortunately."
When he's not in his government, calculus, physics, chemistry and English classes he focuses his time and energy on the martial arts.
"Out of school I have a black belt in martial arts - Taekwondo," explains Josh.
Josh also loves to read and spend time with his friends.
In his future he thinks he'll study dentistry or orthodontics - which means he'll likely be heading out of state for his education.
But his teachers say whatever he does, he won't need any exterior motivation.
"Josh - we don't have to push him. He's a good example of doing that himself."
Southeastern Cooperative, a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative, is giving Josh a hundred dollar scholarship for all his hard work.
