Several career options for O'Gorman Senior

Posted: Updated:

Next fall he could be one of a few selected plebes at West Point Military Academy.

Or he could be studying to be an English teacher.

Or learning to fly.

Today's Scholar of the Week doesn't worry about his future - he's too busy today.

An English teacher, a pilot and a job in politics are just a few of the career options O'Gorman senior Joey Johnson is considering.

"I really want to serve my country, it's something I've always felt," explains Joey.

Add the military to his list.

Joey recently applied to West Point Academy and is keeping his hopes high he'll be accepted and find a clear direction for his future.

"I'll let God decide that for me I guess."

In the meantime, Joey stays busy with various choirs, European history, calculus, physics and A.P. English.

"I'm taking my first study hall of my career," says Joey.

Which is clearly being put to good use because outside the classroom, Joey is equally busy.

Cross country and volunteering at Avera's emergency department also keep him busy.

"The best story I have about Joe, the teacher just wanted to talk about Joe....that's a special kid," says Joey's calculus teacher Ken Lindemann.

A hundred dollar scholarship from Sioux Valley Energy is headed Joe's way for all his hard work both in and out of the classroom.

That's a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
