Parkston senior's future is on the family farm

Posted: Updated:

Today's Scholar of the Week plans to use his brains and athleticism to help out his dad and take over the family farm.

But Evan Schoenfelder has a busy senior year to finish first.

Many of our Scholars of the Week graduate at the top of their class and Evan Schoenfelder is no exception.

The Parkston senior plays football and basketball, plays percussion in band and is studying anatomy, physics and calculus this semester.

In the future he hopes to study agriculture and take over his family's farm.

"I think dad is ready to slow down and I plan on taking that over then," says Evan.

Evan says he's never envisioned doing anything else.

Taking over the farm has been his plan since grade school.

As he gets his diploma with his other 41 classmates, teachers here at Parkston say Evan's presence will be missed.

"Good kid, very intelligent, very good at everything he does," says physics teacher Eric Norden.

Southeastern Electric Co-op is sending Evan a hundred dollar scholarship for his effort.

That's a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
