If you watch Dancing with the Stars then you have seen season after season how much weight the celebrities lose by dancing for 8 hours a day. You don't have to be a celebrity, and you don't have to be on the hit ABC show, you just have to move it to the Avera McKennan Fitness Center where you will definitely move it some more.
Zumba is a Latin American style dance fused with fitness and the classes are really packing in the crowds and brining down the house at the Avera McKennan Fitness Center. Instructor Dawn Szymik has a lot to do with it.
Dawn says, "I love to dance. My life long love has always been dance. I fell in love with making people smile when they walk out of the room. It's so much fun. I just really enjoy doing Zumba."
Like so many of us, Jamie Risse said she was getting bored with her routine of running on a treadmill and lifting weights. She had all but fallen off the wagon until she tried Zumba. She not only got her get-up-and-go back in motion, she dropped 55 pounds in the process.
Jamie says, "Oh my gosh, coming into this class after a stressful day of work or whatever, I see friends, you see Dawn, our instructor, who just brings it all together, the music, you sweat like crazy and you walk out of there a little sore, but it's the greatest feeling. You feel like you worked everything from your mind to your body. I just love it."
Dawn says, "I've lost weight from doing it too. It's toned my body, my endurance is amazing and really this is the best I've felt in my entire life. A lot of people say to me they couldn't do Zumba because I'm not coordinated. You don't have to be. You just have to let yourself go the minute you walk in the door. Let your mind go and enjoy the music. The music electrifies you."
By shakin' it with Zumba, both instructor and student have put a shake down on their work out and slimmed down big time. Exercise is always more fun when it doesn't "seem" like exercise.
