Cardiologist Dr. David Nagelhout with North Central Heart says, "Stunned myocardium means an area of the heart muscle that isn't working. It commonly occurs when somebody comes in with a heart attack or something like that and unfortunately when people come in they often times wait too long and result is they will have permanent damage. It doesn't get any better. Stunned myocardium is like it sounds. It sits there and doesn't really work but if you get in quickly enough after a heart attack and we can get it fixed right away eventually the heart muscle will improve and could come back to normal.

Q: So the take away is if you feel like you are having a heart attack get help immediately?

A: Absolutely, We say minutes is muscle. This is the exact type of thing we see so if you get in right away we can get you fixed up right away hopefully. Your heart will definitely improve.
