As one of 9 kids in her family, Jandi Smith exudes both patience and persistence.
Two qualities that have served her well in school, and in becoming today's Scholar of the Week.
Besides the government, English and calculus classes - Jandi Smith uses 3 periods of her school day to take a bus to Watertown for a health science class that exposes her to the careers available in the health fields.
"In December we'll have 6 shadows at the end of the year we'll have a 5 week shadow where we'll go somewhere and shadow," says Jandi.
Jandi says her field of choice would be pediatric nursing.
Outside the classroom - Jandi is active in book club, peer helpers and N.H.S. and she's an officer in each of those organizations.
Jandi's also a welcome classroom participant.
"I really enjoy having Jandi in class because she's so active, she's a great leader and is confident about it," says one of her teachers Meghan Wounded Head.
There's not much time to waste for this high school senior which will also be the case after she graduates, as she's planning to get through nursing school in two years.
"Once I graduate, I'll go work as a nurse somewhere, in pediatrics hopefully," says Jandi.
Codington Clark Electric Cooperative is sending Jandi a hundred dollar scholarship for her effort.
That's a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
