Inside the new Avera Cancer Institute.
October 26th is a big day on the Avera McKennan campus in Sioux Falls, a day 3 years in the making. It's the official grand opening of the Prairie Center home of the new Avera Cancer Institute. Our Nancy Naeve Brown was there and talked with a Senior Vice President at Avera McKennan about the largest single building project in Sioux Falls' history coming in at $93 million.
Dick Molseed, Sr. VP of Environmental Services at Avera McKennan says, "On the first floor you'll find an East River and West River very SD themed area in the building. On the East side there is gathering spaces, a resource library, performing area, integrative medicine like massage and on the West side is a reflection area with meditation space. Also on the first floor is radiation oncology clinic with big vaults with linear accelerators with the latest technology and a conferencing center.
The second floor is the big oncology clinics and pharmacy and very unique design in the infusion spaces.
The third floor is the imaging center, breast health center, gynecologic oncology and their infusion suites with lots of space for growth.
And the fourth floor is the most modern up to date surgery center that's in the Midwest.
The 5th floor is all for expansion. Right now it's being used for storage.
Open house for the public is Sunday November 7th from 1:00-4:00. For more information call 877-AT-AVERA or go to www.AveraCancer.org
